About Christy

Christy Bottom

Coauthor, Who is God Now?

Coauthor Christy Bottom was devastated to hear about her sister’s marriage, but knew on a practical level (and with a geographical distance), there weren’t many ways to help. Because she knew the couple’s relationship with God needed to be the primary focus in their recovery, she became Robin’s daily reminder of God’s love for the Wilson family. Christy encouraged Robin to write her story first for her own healing, and then for a broader audience.

As a middle school English teacher for 20+ years, Christy is no stranger to encouraging others in their writing. She currently teaches English and Speech & Debate, and serves as the yearbook adviser. She has worked in several capacities as a master teacher for beginning teachers, and as the department chair for her team. She was recently named the 2024 Teacher of the Year for her district, which serves over 22,000 students each year.

A highlight of her career was living and serving in Hungary as a missionary for the Lutheran Church. Christy lived in an apartment there at her school, and taught English to students from kindergarten to adult. Christy and her students learned from each other about culture, bilingual idioms and slang words, and God’s love.

Christy has a BA in English, an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction. She was published several times in community college and university anthologies, and worked on both her university and local community newspaper staff, serving one year as the University newspaper adviser for Concordia University. Christy also spent a summer working for her local newspaper as an unpaid intern, often landing front-page bylines.

Like Robin, considers her most important ministry to be that of wife and mother. She has been married to her husband for 17 years. Although he was healthy when they first married, Christy’s husband struggled for several years with a severe chronic illness. That time was quite a challenge for the Bottom family, and the Lord revealed Himself during that time as their Healer and Father, Sovereign, and Faithful. The Bottom family saw their church family work together as God designed, caring for the Bottoms in ways they were unable to care for themselves. They came alongside the family to support them physically with childcare, yardwork, and household care; emotionally, with tissues and listening ears; and financially, with gas cards, lunch money, and snacks at the hospital. This illness eventually resolved with a double lung transplant for Christy’s husband, and since then, the family has been especially mindful that every extra day together is a gift.

The Bottoms have two boys, ages 12 and 10, and the family enjoys traveling, playing board games and relaxing together in the hot tub. They endeavor to eat dinner together at the table every night.

Christy is always up for adventure. Her summers (off from teaching) are usually packed with vacations and trips with her family. She also enjoys the quieter times studying the Bible, reading, and cross-stitching.
